For The Love of East London

I've said it before and I'll say it a million more - to me, there's no place like home, quite like East London. Growing up around Brighton, there's something about the colourfully designed walls, antique shops, curious corners and electric streets which truly projects a feeling of homely comfort.

But there's a little bit more than that, something which home no longer holds for me, but East London does in abundance.

Every little grey paving stone through the streets of East seem to be leading toward something entirely extraordinary, a completely unique avenue of experience and opportunity which stretches out endlessly before me, gently luring me further and further into the labyrinthine streets of curiosity.

From singing on the rooftop at Gatherly, partying with celebs at the Depop app launch, getting swirly with other bloggers at meetups and events alike, dancing in the afternoon sun through broadway market and making movies down by Regents Canal, rooftop cinemas, basement gigs and extravagant cocktails in secret speakeasies, everything exciting in my life seems to centre around this explosive hub of creativity, and I find myself completely captivated.

And there's nothing which excites me more than being able to further extend my love affair with the place and deepen my long-yearning affection for the place one day I dream of calling home.

That's why I'm absolutely thrilled to share with y'all a chance for you too to experience why I love this place so much.

From tomorrow onwards, Boxpark Shoreditch will be playing to host to the talented folks over at Tigi, who will be opening a popup hair salon called 'Hair Space', and to celebrate, they've launched a special East London competition!

There are 100  Bed Head Hair Space stamps located all around East London, and it's time to keep your eyes peeled! If you spot one, snap a picture and upload it to Twitter or Instagram with the #BedHeadHairSpace and you could win VIP entry to the salon, and a hair cut with a top stylist at the Hair Space.

You can tag them via their Facebook here, their Twitter here or their Instagram here.

Not only that, they are also hosting a fabulous launch party tonight at Boxpark from 6-9pm with DJ's, free drinks and live-styling - I will be there and it would be amazing to see some familiar faces too! Hopefully see you all there.

#Cosmo Blog Awards

This morning I got the absolute surprise of my life when I found out I'd been shortlisted in the Cosmo Blog Awards for Best Use of Social Media. I'd almost completely forgotten the finalists reveal date was coming up, and I couldn't work out why my Twitter interactions were going so crazy.

It might seem a little strange a category for me to have entered, but as I wrote in this post here when I entered, it's something which is actually important to me. In my Manifesto alongside my entry, I mentioned #ScarpheliaNYC, one of the ways in which I had dynamically used social media to unite my readers across the globe.

This is what I wrote:

"Although my blog is primarily a personal thought blog, there is no category for that. However, I definitely like to think I qualify for the Best Use of Social Media category.

I thrive on trying to create new and exciting interactions between the online world and the real world using social media to engage my readers. For example, on a recent trip to New York City, I asked my readers to send me their addresses if they would like to be a part of a little global experiment.

On the plane, I wrote a short story. Upon arrival to New York I bought 10 postcards and split this story into 10 fragments, 10 missing pieces of the puzzle. Out of the hundreds I received, I then selected 10 of the addresses and sent these postcards off all across the world, to Connecticut, Paris, Canada, Holland, Australia, London, Texas, Belgium, Cambridge and Georgia.

The task of each recipient upon finding the card in their mailbox was to then go on and find one another, all on complete opposite sides of the planet, to piece the story back together. I put a hashtag on each one to facilitate this, and so by the use of Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, all 10 were actually able to find one another and organise among themselves to piece the story back together.

The last part of this idea is for each of these people to then send me a video of themselves stating their name, where they live, then reading out their postcard. This way, I can compile it all together into a Youtube video, which will hopefully look amazing with all their different accents and locations, and the full story can be narrated in order.

I create little ideas and projects all the time, and I'm lucky to have such an amazing readership to allow me to actually put these plans into action.

I don't think social media is necessarily just about being the person with the most followers, because followers can be gained in so many underhanded ways these days. And don't get me wrong, getting a thousand likes on a selfie is what everyone dreams of, but what does it really mean? For me, social media is all about what you can do with it, it's about finding new exciting ways to push the boundaries and create thought-provoking ideas to make people smile.

And I love it. To me, my blog has become more than just that, it's become a place to be excited and passionate about life, to share amazing stories and ideas and discuss with true sincerity and integrity the scary parts of life, the wonderful parts of life, and a place for others to share too, their stories with me.

Because in today's world, where your best friends can be on people on the other side of the planet you've never met, social media has a beautiful way of bringing us all together."

And so if you think I deserve it, I'd be eternally grateful if you could lend me your vote!

To vote, simply go to this page here, and in each category select a blog, which will lead you on to the next category. At category 14, it would be wonderful if you could put that little dot next to 'Scarphelia'!

Thank you, you wonderful people!

Ambling Days

Spent yesterday in Shoreditch with this little fella, and ended up taking a pretty sweet double exposure photo which we will be using for our Ambler artwork.

P.S can you believe this dress was £7 from Tesco?

Now off to pack this and way too many other items in my bag for Glasto!

Music Festival Style ft Misspap

Hat - Beyond Retro
Dress - H&M
Bikini Top - H&M
Necklaces - Accessorize
Belt - Charity Shop

Okay so seriously Misspap might be my new favourite thing ever.

It's only a recent discovery of mine but is definitely changed my life already, and if you haven't checked it out already I definitely urge you to. I genuinely could not believe the range of stunningly beautiful clothes, and most of it for under £20! Girls, if you don't already know Misspap you need to get that in your life asap.

I recently got the opportunity to style up this gorgeous black lace tassled kimono, which I will be wearing with pretty much every single outfit I wear at all my music festivals this summer!

It is an absolutely stunning item and totally versatile - it can an add a gothicly boho vibe to pretty much any outfit. So far I think I have worn it with about 5 different outfits and received compliments on it each time, but this is definitely my favourite combo. I really like how the cobalt blue contrast with the matching burgundy of the hat and bikini top.

Not only that, the lovely girls att Misspap have also given me a 10% off code for me to pass on to you guys, so just enter 'KATIE10OFF' and the checkout to activate it :)

Happy shopping!

The Grey-time of London at May-time

Dress - c/o Motel Rocks *
Denim Jacket - NYC thrift shop
White Sandals - River Island
Leather Backpack - Thrift Shop

Location: Dorset Street, London
Photos: Samantha Nash

I think perhaps these are the only shots we managed to get in between the TORRENTIAL downfall of Summer in London - hence the delightfully crazy hair haha.

I have been completely in love with this dress for a while now, and when Motel Rocks got in touch for a collaboration I was completely over the moon. The material is babysoft to the touch, the vibrant colour really illuminated the gloom of the day and the fit is beyond perfect. I definitely think this dress will become an instant summer staple for my wardrobe.

Keep up to date with me on instagram here!

Don't think I'll ever find such an impressive Outfit Of The Day location ever again. Absolutely adored this white shift dress with mesh inserts from Daisy Street, and I was certain these shoes were going to rub but they were an absolute dream on my toes. Beautiful glorious day.
